Wanstead Cricket Tournament

Fairlop entered 4 tournaments at Wanstead Cricket Club  in July.

We entered a boys team, 2 mixed teams and a girls team and even applied players to Churchfields School when they had insufficient players.
We did really well in all the competitions and were in a particularly strong position in the final tournament, winning 1 match by over 100 runs until rain stopped play!

Netball

On Tuesday 29th of April it was the netball tournament.

The black team and the red team, after school, went to Redbridge sports centre for the tournament. The tournament started at (4pm) and was aiming to finish approximately around six pm (6pm) but as we found out it finished at half past six (6:30).
Miss Bailey and Miss Bennion were with us to. The black and red team had different teams to play against and we were on different courts.

The red team did well and the Black team were very successful! The black were led to success by winning the league, the previous tournament and the tournament at Redbridge.
They got through to the semi-finals and got into the finals where they were against Bancroft’s. The team got two trophies and two medals each. Unfortunately this was black team’s last tournament in year six. It was a proud and a sad moment at the same time. The red team also played matches but sadly didn't win any although they did draw with some teams.
At the end of the day everyone enjoyed themselves and had a lot of fun.

Girls Football!!

On Friday, 9th of May, year 3, 4 and 5 girls had the chance to go and play football. This was an exciting time for the girls as there had never been a chance for girl’s football in school before. We were led by Mrs Ironside, who had organised this fantastic football event. We walked down to Barkingside in a hurry as we had left quite late! We made it in time but still had to rush our lunch! After we had our lunch, we were split into groups. The groups were based by what year we were in. Luckily we had our friends so it wasn't so bad! We set off to our places and we learnt some skills and drills that we had never learned before. Finally by the end of the day we played some 3 minute matches with our groups. We switched and played other teams, switch and play other teams. It was great fun! We had a great day and enjoyed every bit of it although it was a long walk back!

Wanstead Pop-up Pool...

Recently, myself and some other children from Fairlop have been going to the pop-up swimming pool in Wanstead to learn about life-saving and water polo. I believe that it is safe to say that everyone that has been going have all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
We only have thirty minutes in the pool to learn water skills which have boosted our existing knowledge of how to swim!

As a result, we know how to:
  • take part in water sports/games
  • save a life in the water
  • swim advanced swimming strokes
I believe that these extra sessions have been a phenomenal benefit to all of us.

I was also very luck to have been selected to meet Boris Johnson at the Pop-up pool (as he has funded the pools). Whilst there I was also fortunate enough to meet many other political figures, although I can't remember their names. This was a wonderful experience for me!

Sport Relief 2014

On Friday the 21st Fairlop Primary was celebrating sports
relief. We all came to school in sportswear and brought one pound in to support the charity.

As well as this fantastic day, we had a film crew come into our school. They knew our school were very sporty and had won awards! We were so lucky to have someone so special to come in. They filmed the athletics squad and the netball team.

The netball team played against Caterham High School, which had some of our old netballers, and had a superb victory, 6-0. We were surprised to win as we have never won against year sevens. As great as this day could be for us, we had the speed stacking competition!  It was a hard competition, as every class wanted to win and get the trophy. Names of the netball team: Stecie, Kyra, Amy, Ermidiana, Zoe, Jodie V, Isobel B,

To finish off the filming we had an assembly with the school’s sports committee and the people who are in Fairlop’s sports teams and clubs. It was during this assembly that Ms Brannan received the award, the School Sports Award Gold Level.

It was wonderful but busy but the whole school enjoyed every little bit of it!

  6 - 3
  5 - 3
  4  - 3
  8 - 3        Semi Final against St. Anthony's
12 - 11      Final against Oakdale (after extra time)

The team has been receiving extra training sessions on Thursday Mornings from 8 - 9am with Mr Turner (parent/governor) who coaches Wanstead RC.
They now go on to represent Redbridge at Crystal Palace in April.

Good Luck to our team!

London Youth Hockey

Last week we went to the London Youth Hockey Competition. It was great fun and everyone enjoyed themselves.
We kept fit and active even when it was time for our five minute break! We have all trained very hard for this event by having our coach come in every Monday to train us. We were given great tips and advice on how to tackle the opposition.
On the day, we lost one match against Bancroft School but we didn't let them drag us down we kept our heads held high and carried on! The hard work paid off since we won every single match after that!
Sadly we lost out on goal difference so we didn't manage to get to the final. However the other schools, that also didn't qualify, like us, were allowed to play matches and guess what? we won all of those as well!!
